30162 throat for 803B multicell wanted

    Hi all:
Does anybody have a 30162 horn throat they could sell me? I have a clean grey 30210 throat for a 1005B if anyone needs one.
The 30162's seem hard to come by, as I've been looking for a couple months. I want to try the 803B's atop the 825/828 cabinet, having read what are good impressions of them on this board.
    Please PM.
    -Jon Archibald
PS How should they be mounted on the A-7/-5 cabinet? Horn overhanging the front (trying to line up the voice coils) or driver hanging out off the back? It would appear they weren't a "factory" combo.

Re: 30162 throat for 803B multicell wanted

    Hi Jon
I've been using a pair of 803B multicells and 299 drivers fotr seeveral years now and Love them. I do use a small Coral Horn tweeter as a top sweetener, which to my old ears helps.

I aligned the rear of the 299 driver to be in line with the rear of the 515-GHP in my 829 cabs. This move made my system seem more coherent as opposed to a more forward position.

I wish you luck in finding a matching adaptor for your 803 pair.
What driver are you going to use?

    Have fun!

    Hi Will:
288-8L's. I must look at that setup of yours. I may have it bookmarked.
I also have a pair of 1005B's with the different throats which sound nice in their own right.
I've been thinking of re-enlarging the port to original spec, as some have suggested it's not as punchy but also less peaky by the same token.

    PS: Bass drivers are 515-8G's.

    Hi Jon

Depends on the XO you use. For a passive, the old 'reverse the HF phase and adjust for the largest null at crossover' is best. Active w/delay gives you more options. I'd probably try to align the coils by aligning the center of the LF front plate with the center of the HF rear plate. That way you're in phase throughout, not just at XO. With this setup you might end up with too much horn hanging out front though, (I don't know the dims offhand).

Re: 30162 throat for 803B multicell wanted

Thanks for your advice Bfish. I have an old Crown VMX-2 active XO which I've never used-and now think I might try it, though I don't think it has delay (I'll check). I might use a Mac 2100 for the top and a 2200 for the bottom, or maybe tubes for the top....
Finding a single 30162 throat is hard. Does anyone clone them? Will keep looking.

Re: 30162 throat for 803B multicell wanted

    Hi Jon,

Contact this eBay seller in Toronto to find out what model numbers are actually on the 2 "805 throats" he's presently offering for sale .

If they're 30162(s) and he offers a more reasonable shipping $$ alternative / then these might be your best option .

    >< cheers

Thanks Earl for that. I think I've bought from him before, lives not too far away. I'll contact him. The bolt flanges appear damaged-not a problem.
    Best wishes,
    Jon A.
